It all started almost by accident with a chance introduction to fell walking - which turned out to be a life changing experience! Instinctively Jim felt drawn towards the stark beauty of the northern hills, and after initial explorations the lure of high ground and wild places became ever stronger. The trigger to buy a camera was a desire to record places visited and summits achieved. The bug bit. Keen to improve on early efforts, techniques were learned by reading books and magazines, studying the work of other photographers and shooting lots of images. Over time it all started to come together and encouraged by positive feedback he eventually became a part-time, then full-time, freelance. As a result his range has widened to include urban, architectural, coastal and heritage subjects but his first love remains the landscape, in which he feels completely at home.
